TRAMS Transport were at home to Alberta B in the South Tyneside Super League – and led 3-2 going into the singles.
However, it all then went wrong for Trams as the Alberta went into overdrive.
Victories for Andy Heley, Dave Gutteridge, Paul Edmonds, Mark Newsome, Eddie Heley and Peter Graves gave them a clean sweep in the singles and inflicted a 14-3 defeat.
Top Club led the Wheatsheaf 3-2 going into the singles.
Billy Just drew his match with Gary Dunn.
Gary Aspin then beat Dave Tinmouth, and draws between Gary Porter and Brian Duncan, Dave Stephenson and Steve Taylor and Paul Morrison and Colin Gillespie followed. With John Nichols winnings the last legs, it was a 11-6 win for Top Club.
Alberta A only had five players available due to work commitments against Annie McCarthy’s – so it was no surprise Annie’s led 4-1 going into the singles.
Alan McCarthy (180) won the first singles to bring it back to 4-3 – only for Bob Urwin to give Annie’s the advantage with his victory.
Draws between Jimmy Hudson and Brian Stewart and Norman Davison and Dave Mason made it 8-5.
However, Ray Stobbs’ success and a walkover for John Naughton made the final score 12-5 to Annie’s.
Jolly Stewart, ahead 4-1 going into the singles, claimed an 11-6 success over Westoe, while Alberta Bar overcame Catholic Club A 13-4 and New Demi saw off Red Hackle 10-7.
