YORK’S four-strong challenge in the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship stalled at the qualifying stages at the Telford International Centre.
Chris Thompson, John Quantock, Martyn Turner and Paul Cooper contested the PDPA Qualifiers looking to book one of eight places in the main draw.
Quantock and Cooper clashed in the preliminary round, with Quantock progressing 5-3.
In round one, Quantock exited after a 5-2 defeat by Stuart Dutton.
Turner was unfortunate to draw top seed Mick McGowan and suffered a 5-1 defeat.
That left Thompson to fly the flag for York and he ousted Mark Frost 5-2 in his first round match.
In round two, the Acomb player edged out Sam Rooney, who appeared in this year’s UK Open and Las Vegas Desert Classic, 5-4.
However, Thompson’s run ended in the third round when he went down 5-2 to Isen Veljic.
The Clifton Hotel player’s only consolation was a prize money cheque for £500. (full story...)
