Entries are being taken for the event, which will return to the Bluebird Club for the grand final, with the hosts also sponsoring this year’s competition.

Last year saw Dee Bateman claim the ladies’ title for a ninth time, only months after she appeared on the biggest stage of them all in the World Championships at Lakeside.

The men’s title was won by shipyard worker Shaun Brand, who beat Simon Whiteside 3-2 in the final at the Cemtery Cottages Club back in March.

The entry fee for men is £5, with a prize of £300 going to the winner.

The runner-up will pocket £100, with the two losing semi-finalists each collecting £25.

For the ladies event, entry is £4, with a first prize of £250, the runner-up taking home £100 and the two losing semi-finalists £20 each.

Entry forms can be left at the Evening Mail’s main office in Abbey Road, Barrow, or the district offices at Wellington Street, Millom, and Market Street, Ulverston.

The closing date for entries is this coming Saturday, December 20.

l Forms can be found on page five of today’s Evening Mail.
