The men on the green baize could learn a lot from the boys on the oche
Sir, The men on the green baize could learn a lot from the boys on the oche (“O’Sullivan says snooker’s gone to pot”, Jan 13). The World Darts Championship shown on BBC last week had everything that snooker doesn’t. It was entertaining, exciting and unpredictable, culminating in a gripping final that had us all on the edge of our seats.
In contrast, snooker, epitomised by a four-and-a-half-hours 11-frame match this week cannot compete. This game may have appealed to the purists but it was simply too boring to watch. Snooker needs to act fast if it wishes to retain the interest of the masses.
