While the game of darts is commonly associated with English pubs and cockney accents, a loyal group of enthusiasts in the Cape Cod Dart League are playing competitive darts on the Cape each week and hoping to grow the club’s membership.
“There’s a real strong group of people who want to be competitive and have a good time playing with other people who enjoy it,” says Darren Eldridge, co-commissioner of the CCDL along with Chris Legere.
Eldridge and Legere are part of a nine-member board that is focused on creating more playing opportunities on the Cape as well as encouraging newcomers to try the sport. “It’s a low-cost sport that is competitive as well as a social event,” says Eldridge.
The league has been in existence for more than 20 years, with teams playing at various establishments throughout the mid and lower Cape as well as over the bridges. The group had more than 80 teams at its peak a decade ago, but those numbers have dropped, at least partially because off-Cape traveling was especially inconvenient. (full article...)
